✦ Thorn's Library
Every corner of Gem SMP holds a story waiting to be uncovered. From forgotten journals and ancient myths to character interactions and world-changing events, the lore grows alongside the crystals themselves. Whether you're piecing together the village's past or following the journeys of its inhabitants, every discovery reveals another piece of the mystery.
✦ The Children of Sol and Selene
Before there were kingdoms, before there were castles, and before the first Avian ever took flight, there was only the Sun and the Moon. The Sun was Sol.
The Moon was Selene.
The two gods watched over an empty world together.Sol loved movement. They loved watching things grow. They loved courage, discovery, and the excitement of seeing what waited beyond the horizon. They believed the world was meant to be explored.Selene loved understanding. They loved stories, memories, and knowledge. They believed the world was meant to be remembered.
Neither god was greater than the other. For what is a discovery if nobody remembers it? And what is knowledge if nobody seeks it? So together they created the Avians. The stories say Sol gathered pieces of sunlight and shaped the first feathers from gold. Selene gathered silver moonlight and wove dreams and memories into them. Together they breathed life into their creation.
The Avians became the children of the sky.Not servants.
Not slaves.
Children. Each Avian was given a purpose.
Sol asked them to explore the world.Selene asked them to understand it.Where other creatures simply lived upon the land, the Avians were encouraged to seek answers. They crossed oceans, climbed mountains, explored forgotten ruins, and searched forests for things nobody had seen before. When they discovered something new, they brought it home. Then they recorded it.Every story.
Every map.
Every artifact.
Every lesson.Nothing was supposed to be forgotten. This became the purpose of the Avians. To discover.
To learn.
To remember. Many Avians dedicated their lives to gathering knowledge. Some became travelers who spent years journeying across distant lands. Others became writers, historians, teachers, or librarians. Entire cities were built around the collection and preservation of information. To an Avian, knowledge was never just information. Knowledge was proof that someone had lived.
Proof that something had happened. Proof that the world was larger than what could be seen from a single nest.Over time, the Avians began building shrines to honor their gods.
Gold was offered to Sol because it reflected the color of sunlight.
Diamonds were offered to Selene because they glittered like stars beneath the moon.At first these offerings were small.A single coin.
A polished gem.
A treasured object.
Something meaningful. But as generations passed, the offerings grew larger. The Avians became collectors.
They collected books.Artifacts.
Maps.
Treasures.
Stories.Anything they believed had value.
Many believed they were honoring Sol and Selene by doing so. After all, were they not gathering the wonders of the world? Were they not preserving them?
Yet some priests and scholars warned that the purpose was beginning to change. The gods had asked the Avians to learn. Not to hoard. They had asked them to preserve. Not to possess. But the line between those things became difficult to see. Some Avians cared more about owning knowledge than sharing it. Some cared more about collecting treasures than understanding them. The old teachings slowly became clouded by pride and greed. Even so, the faith endured. Every sunrise is still seen as a blessing from Sol.
Every moonrise is still seen as a reminder that Selene watches from above.Travelers pray before long journeys.
Writers whisper thanks before beginning a new page. Historians ask for Selene's guidance when recording important events. Explorers ask Sol for courage before stepping into the unknown. Because no matter how much the world changes, one belief remains. The Avians were given a purpose. To seek what is hidden.
To learn what is forgotten. To carry knowledge forward so that future generations may know the stories of those who came before. This is the duty Sol and Selene entrusted to them. And whether the Avians have remained faithful to that duty...Is a question history has not yet answered.
✦ Doctor's Notes
• Medical Notes — Crystal Infection
Attending Physician: Dr. X Thorn───────
Infection summary! The Crystal Infection appears to function as a collective organism, behaving similarly to a hive mind. Its methods closely resemble those of Cordyceps, a parasitic fungus known to infect ants, manipulating their behavior until death before producing fungal growths that release spores.
The crystals exhibit a comparable life cycle. They release a fine, bioluminescent matter resembling glowing cave dust. Initial contact through inhalation or direct skin contact does not appear immediately dangerous. Most patients experience only mild coughing or throat irritation during the first twenty-four hours before symptoms begin to develop.
Note to self: Wash your hands, This is disgusting.───────Stage 0 (Pre Infection)After being in contact with the crystals the victim will be fine for at least 24 hours. Before changes become noticeable───────Stage 1Behavioral changes begin to appear.
—
Patients often become nervous, restless, or unusually distracted. Nearly every patient I've examined has repeatedly scratched at their skin or feathers, describing the feeling as if something is moving beneath the surface.
Some cases become increasingly aggressive. Patients may lash out at nearby individuals, destroy their surroundings, or attempt to tear out their own feathers in an effort to relieve the discomfort.
No visible crystal growths have been recorded during this stage, though the infection is clearly beginning to affect the nervous system.───────Stage 2Physical symptoms become much easier to recognize.
Pigment slowly drains from the patient's feathers, hair, skin, and eyes, often leaving behind a pale purple tint.
Small crystal shards begin pushing through the skin, usually around the arms, shoulders, back, or neck before spreading to the rest of the body.
Patients appear to be in constant pain during this stage and frequently cry out without warning.Doctor's Note: They scream. Constantly. It gets quite irritating after a few hours.
I've also noticed that Avian species begin losing feathers as the infection spreads. Humans don't seem to respond the same way, though their symptoms differ enough that I'd like to continue studying the differences between species───────Stage 3
Large crystal clusters begin forming across the patient's body, replacing more and more healthy tissue as they continue growing.
Blood samples become much thicker than normal and change to a bright, almost glowing purple color. It is possible the infection is altering the blood itself, though I haven't confirmed this yet.
Some patients survive this stage longer than others. At the moment, I believe this depends on the species or the overall health of the patient before infection, though there isn't enough evidence to say for certain.
Death does not stop the infection.
Crystal growth continues long after the host has died. The body releases increasing amounts of spores into the surrounding area, making deceased infected individuals just as dangerous as living ones.
Recommendation: Do not approach infected corpses without proper protection. Burning the body may prevent further crystal growth, though additional testing is required before I can recommend this as a reliable treatment.
✦ The history of Gemstone Village
Long before it was known as Gemstone, the village bore another name: Luminary. To those beyond its borders, however, it was called the Eye of Heaven. It was said that the healers who lived there had been chosen by Sol himself, blessed with the gift to mend the sick.Whether that blessing was ever real is a question history has long forgotten. Some believe it was nothing more than a story—a lie told to keep hope alive, convincing desperate people that the gods still watched over them.If that is true, it was a lie that cost countless lives.Greed took root where kindness once flourished. Those entrusted with healing became consumed by their own selfish desires, and in the end, their choices set tragedy into motion. Whatever happened next... happened because of them.Time buried Luminary beneath ruin, and with it, its true name. Today, few remember the village as anything but Gemstone, named for the strange crystalline infection that swallowed its streets, crept across its fields. It claimed countless homes and lives.
The truth behind the plague has faded into myth. Some whisper it was a punishment from the gods—a trial meant to separate the strong from the weak. Others insist the people of Luminary brought the curse upon themselves.no one can say for certain. Many have set out to uncover the truth, hoping to find what remains of the lost village. None have ever truly returned. Those who do stumble back are never the same, as though they left something behind... or brought something back with them. When the infection first began to spread, the people turned to their beloved king for guidance. But when they needed him most, he vanished without a trace. The kingdom fell into chaos. Fear spread faster than the sickness itself, and hope all but disappeared.Then... he arrived. He called himself the Vampire King.No one knows where he came from.No one knows his true face, or even his true name.Yet every child is raised on the same warning: Beware the Vampire King... and the man who stands at his side.

✦ The Doctor's Doodles
Not every story is remembered through words. Some are preserved in sketches, paintings, and fragments left behind by those who witnessed the world's slow decay. These pieces capture forgotten places, familiar faces, and moments that linger long after they're gone, offering a glimpse into life before—and after—the crystal infection.Look closely. Every illustration holds a story, and some may reveal more than they were ever meant to.
